Difficult? No, I seek perfection!
Just came across this latest - no too bad - review in The Guardian: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2009/nov/13/angela-gheorghiu-reviewI enjoyed the concert, but have to admit that I was not particularly fascinated. Less changing of dresses and more solo arias would have been highly appreciated. But to be fair: Everybody who went to the concert and read the programme -as clearly advertised on the Southbank Centre homepage - knew what to expect and should not complain about the programme. For future events I nevertheless hope for less cheesy encores than the last two - especially Brindisi with the conductor once again performing the lame joke of "surprisingly" singing one line did not really pull it off for me. Anyway, I am nevertheless looking forward to seeing AG in the future, my possible next attempts being Deutsche Oper Berlin on 27/02/2010 and Carmen in NYC in April/May.
Thank you for the article, Frieda. I agree with that conductor singing thing. It's old stuff. He did it so many times. But for those who haven't seen it before it migh be funny.Good plan you have. It sort of matches mine. But the concert in Berlin is not yet confirmed on the official website even it the Opera is selling tickets.
And there is another review for those who haven't read it yet:http://www.musicomh.com/classical/rfh-gheorghiu_1109.htm
