Summer Festival HD at the MET

Starting August 29, the Met will present its first-ever Summer HD Festival, featuring screenings of ten productions from the company’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning Live in HD series. The HD productions will be shown in Lincoln Center Plaza on consecutive nights—for free.
La Boheme, featuring Angela Gheorghiu and Ramon Vargas will be broadcasted on September 4th, starting at 8pm.

Even if people were scheptical in the beginning, this project, Live in HD in theatres around the world and the newer one, free broadcasts in Lincoln Plaza, had a great success. Great job. I guess it was a good investment. In this article mr Peter Gelb also says that concerts in the parks are not out of the question. But for the moment there aren't enough funds for this kind of events.

Tosca at ROH

This article isn't new. But I got the page a few days ago from a friend of a friend who was in London and bought the newspaper. It's from Financial Times, July 18th 2009, "Life and Arts" section.

Both say no

On Angela's EMI web page there are two operas listed. La Boheme in Zurich at Opernhaus on October 10th 2009 and Pagliaci in Berlin at Deutsche Oper on 24th and 27th of February 2010. I got replies from both operas. They don't know anything about this.
Both messages end like this: "I suggest you check our Website regularly in order to keep up with changes concerning the cast".
So, unpack and wait for news!

Record box-office sales at the MET

According to nj.com the MET has established a new record sale for the opening day of the box office. More than $2,500,000 spent on opera tickets! Financial crisis?? Think again. Even if there were some major changes (Angela Gheorghiu shortened the run, Rolando Villazon withdrawn, Elina Garanca gave Les Contes d'Hoffman for Carmen) most of the tickets were sold.
I have to say that I contributed to that amount. And it was difficult to find some tickets. Armida on May 1st (the one that will be broadcasted) was almost sold out. On the first day of the sale!

Tosca - One cancels, one shines

This was my first experience at Royal Opera House in London. And what a night! Deborah Voight cancelled one week before the first performance. Angela Gheroghiu and Nelly Miriciou shared the part.
I went to London without thinking twice too see Angela performing in Tosca. It was one of the best decissions I've ever made. Here you can see how it was. Step by step.

It took my breath away

Of all I've written so far, this is the most difficult. How should I put in words an overwhelming feeling?
Let's put it like this. Imagine that you want something very, very much. And you'd do a lot of thigs to be able to go seeing that "something". And then suddenly, it's in front of your eyes. That "something" for me is Angela Gheorghiu.
I was not sure she'll come to Bucharest. But she showed up at the press conference on Thursday and then I knew. The show was on Saturday. Fete de la Musique, with 1 week delay.
No sleep/no eat before the concert. I was extremely nervous. I gave up my seat in the hall for the first step in front of the stage. Even if for many people this sounds unusual, here it's possible and nobody asks you why you don't sit in a chair. What would she wear? What would she sing?
Some pictures and videos follow. Don't think that I spent all the time taking pictures. Oh, no. Not for a moment. The camera took the pictures almost by itself. Don't forget that I was seating on stairs. And had my knees as support for the camera. So, enjoy. With all my love.

You can find the pictures and the rest of the comments here.

Bucharest - press conference - 29/06

......Who would have thought? She actually came to Bucharest for the Fete de la Musique show on Saturday, June 27th. Before being happy I wanted to see her in front of my eyes. And this happened yesterday, at the press conference for this event. A friend of mine told me about it and I said "why not, let's try getting in". It wasn't difficult. Some people from the press, some critiques and some of our best musicians. Mrs Angela Gheorghiu, Mr Ion Caramitru, the Director of the National Theatre where the event will take place, Mr Radu Beligan, Mr Dan Grigore, Mr Johnny Raducanu, Mr Horatiu Malaele and Mr Victor Rebengiuc. One of the few questions (sorry to say but I think that some of the people there didn't actuallt know why they are there and who the people in front of them are - so.. no questions from the press. related to the concert on Saturday or not. And this was sad. We wanted to ask something.. but we couldn't. We should have to introduce ourselves).... so, one of the few questions was about the program of the evening. "It's a suprise" Mr Caramitru said. Piano (the new Yamaha piano bought by the National Theatre), voice, poetry and ... improvisation.
.....Thanks Angela for coming. Now I'm not upset anymore. she said that she accepted the invitation whitout hesitation. Hope there are more and more events like this.

No comments for the pictures. I was so nervous that my hand were shaking a lot. Afterall, she was there, in front of me. Everything is here.
