R&J - Cancelled

The official site announced that Angela cancelled the entire run of Romeo et Juliette at the Met. Reason? Illness. Really? Probably, as there's a virus spread in US and also in Europe. So I hope it's not too bad and I wish her speedy recovery. Do I feel sorry? Sure, for her being sick, for all the people that are NY right now hoping to see her, for all the nasty things that will be published in newspapers, for me writing about this again. Replacement? Who cares...
.
Sad, isn't it? But it will go away.

  2. I think the most important thing for Angela is to get well. Listening to her voice every day is a true gift and blessing. That's why, a real fan won't be ever disappointed for any cancellation. As concerns the media...let them talk...and you're right Irina...who cares...

  4. Booking opens next week for the two London ROH Tosca performances. Do we take a chance?

  5. Big fans are going to be disappointed because what they want most of all is to hear her sing. It is hard not to feel let down because this is something fans look forward to for months and months. Yes, I hope she feels better, too, (of course) because I still want to hear her sing but it isn't going to happen tonight, unfortunately. It's normal to feel sad about it. Of course, I will try to see Faust in the fall and her concert at the Kennedy Center!

  6. @VJ - YES, I will :). I wish everyone good luck as it will be a real battle for the tickets.
@Linda - for the moment I'll stick to Europe. There's Faust at ROH, Boheme at Liceu and there should be something else in Spring/Summer. Maybe ROH again. We'll see.

  7. just found this articel:

    http://www.backstage.com/bso/news-and-features-news/before-dying-opera-s-romeo-and-juliette-1005060092.story

and this doesn´t seem to be something to be casual about it:

"Angela Gheorghiu was to return this season to a role she last sung at the Met in 1998, but she has been feeling ill for weeks and medical tests still haven't determined the cause, according to agent Jack Mastroianni."

  8. It wasn't on my subscription, but I would have gone, even though I find the opera largely boring. Why go then? Angela. Please get better and good luck. JG NYC

  12. I also read about the cancellation of the upcoming MET Marguerites. She cites "artistic reasons". But I'm afraid this is an elegant way out for Angela, as most likely Mr Gelb cannot trust a singer's commitment to a new production, after she canecelled both Carmen and R&J, so he probably doesn't want her. This looms very badly for Angela's future appearances at the MET.
