Tosca screening in Bucharest, September 20

Just when I was thinking I'd like to see this Tosca again (2011 ROH's production, the one to be released on DVD soon), I found out that it will be screened again in Bucharest. This time at Grand Cinema Digiplex, at Baneasa Mall. So it's a date. Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann, Bryn Terfel, September 20 at 8pm, 55 lei/ticket.

More info on the website of Grand Cinema Digiplex. It would be a great idea for them to promote all their screenings. It's like they consider opera an underground, mysterious world with no access from outside. And they have such a great website!

Just between us, the dwellers of the underground world, Grand Cinema Digiplex is also broadcasting La Traviata, an outdoor production recorded in Sydney, on September 6. This one. It's currently in cinemas around the world.

Something I like. Proms 2012

My fav of Beethoven's symphonies, number 7. Can't get enough of it! Performed by West-Eastern Divan Orchestra conducted by Daniel Barenboim. This orchestra did the amazing thing of playing all nine symphonies in a row in less than a week. Thumbs up!

Lots of performances from BBC Proms 2012 on this YouTube channel

Have a nice Sunday!

Blame it on the rain

This is what the organizers said during the press conference held today in Seoul, trying to explain the low ticket sales. According to Korea Herald two out of four of next week's performances of La Boheme will be cancelled.

Something I like. Martha Argerich. Off stage.

Stephanie Argerich, Martha's youngest of her three daughters, made this short film in 2011. Have no idea if there's more than this. But these 8 minutes reveal what Martha has always hidden. Her off stage life. Seen here through the eyes of her daughter. Some things about how it is to be an artist and a mother and how the daughter understood and accepted her mother-hero's way of living.

Stephanie says:

"At my age, 34, my mother has already been married and divorced twice, had three daughters and won first prize at several international competitions and was already a legendary pianist. I've always liked to be the kind of person that watches from the shadow. Spotlights are for giants, like my mother".

"She travelled a great deal. And lived mostly at night. As little girl, I lived in a rather special world in which my mother was a super heroine. I often travelled with her and lived at the same pace as her often stayed awake until the very early hours"

Shazam-ing

I was listening to Diva in my car one morning, on the way to work (oh yes, contrary to prejudices, this music help me wake up). And I thought 'would Shazam recognize also a particular voice singing opera?' It does, as you can see. Very useful for those who don't have much time googling. Just start it, let it do its job, then go to iTunes and download the entire album.

Shazam is available for any kind of mobile devices (for iPhones, it is available for free in the App store). It can recognize almost any tune coming from a recording.

Try §1 - correct answer

Try §2 - also correct

Try §3 was a challenge. I changed the CD :) But couldn't trick Shazam. It was its third right answer.
