VIDEO - curtain call of last evening's Tosca at the Met

A great success of the fist Tosca on October 29 at the Metropolitan Opera, as the reviews tell us. I read a few, I can't be happier!

Here's a curtain call video, as posted on the official Facebook page. It takes a few seconds to load, be patient :) Listen to the reaction of the crowd! I'm so looking forward to the live radio broadcast of Tosca on November 2!

New conductor for Met Tosca

Paolo Carignani will conduct the two Tosca performances at the Metropolitan Opera on October 29 and November 2, as Placido Domingo has some health issues. Hope he will get well soon.

Don't forget, the Tosca on November 2 starring Angela Gheorghiu, Roberto Aronica and Zeljko Lucic will be broadcast live on Sirius XM!

VIDEO - La Wally in Dresden, October 2

Here's Ebben, ne andro lontana from La Wally, performed by Angela Gheorghiu at the European Cultural Awards Gala on October 2, at the Frauenkirche in Dresden.

Angela was honoured with the European Cultural Award, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the German reunification. I'm so proud!

Concert in Sydney, artistry at the highest level

The Australian acknowledged Angela's concert in Sydney on October 8 with a exalted review, matching the performance and the enthusiasm of the audience.

[...] In both “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca and “Sola perduta, abbandonata” from Manon Lescaut, Gheorghiu’s expressive intensity and impassioned immediacy powerfully extracted every last ounce of emotion from these Puccini favourites.[...] (Murray Black, The Australian)

Program for the concerts in Australia

I've been looking for it for a while. Reading the reviews, I managed to put the program together. But as fans are always watching and sharing, so here it is, as presented in the concert program in Sydney on October 8. It should be the same for the concert in Melbourne on October 13.

Part one:
La Pasix and La Rejouissance - Handel
Lascia ch'io pianga - Rinaldo/Handel
Adieu notre petite table - Manon/Massenet
Intermezzo - Manon Lescaut/Puccini
Pleurez mes yeux - Le cid/Massenet
Song to the Moon - Rusalka/Dvorak

Part two:
Aragonaise - Carmen/Bizet
Un bel di vedremo - Madama Butterfly/Puccini
Habanera - Carmen/Bizet
Romanian Rhapsody - Enescu
Vissi d'arte - Tosca/Puccini
Sola, perduta, abbandonata - Manon Lescaut/Puccini

And three encores: Granada, I Could Have Danced All Night and a Romanian song that none of the reviewers managed to name. Hope I'm right with these, they were briefly mentioned in some reviews.

4* review of the Sydney concert

Only good words about Angela's concert at the Sydney Opera House last night. So happy for that!
The program looks great. Though I can't say I don't regret that arias such as Un bel di and Vissi d'arte were included only in programs for concerts on the other side of the Earth :) But hey, we'll have plenty of Toscas here in Europe to enjoy next year.

[...] In the second half, in Un bel di Vedremo from Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Gheorghiu used masterly control over vowels and carefully modulated dynamic control to create a sense of spaciousness.
Vissi d'arte from the same composer's Tosca, captured a comparable sense of statuesque fullness.[...]

In the future, Manon Lescaut, Don Carlo, Otello, Norma...

It's what draw my attention in the new interview published on the Australian Limelight Magazine, ahead of Angela's concerts in Sydney (Oct 8) and Melbourne (Oct 13).
I'm so looking forward to all these beautiful roles, productions or concert versions. It seems like a good plan. For sure I'll be there when they happen.

[...] Gheorghiu continues to add new roles to her repertoire and says that there are more on the way over the next few years. In March this year, she made an acclaimed debut as Charlotte in Werther at the Vienna State Opera, performing the role again at the Salzburg Festival in August. Asked which other roles she has her eye on right now, she cites several operas: Puccini’s Manon Lescaut, Verdi’s Don Carlos, Otello and –  “maybe” – Un Ballo in Maschera. “Of course, everybody ask me to do Norma but I will think about that,” she says. “The list of roles is rather heavy still and I am happy about that.” [...]
